Hey,

You might have noticed a change in my "God promotion" around here, in my signature. I have defended my faith around here in the past and I noticed it didn't lead anywhere (accept perhaps that I became more persisted in my faith). But I care about you people and I know that sin isn't making your life any better.

Some of you have been promoting pornography, laziness, alcohol, idolisation and hate. But I know those things can only do damage to you, your life and the people around you. I'm not saying that I'm perfect or anything, but I am saying that I've found a God who changed my life and keeps changing my life in a good way.

I believe that God can do good to your life and help you deal with your problems. This doesn't mean you won't face any problems, but I know God can help you to get through them.

Now the problem is, that some of you openly refuse to believe the existence of God. I've tried to prove them wrong with rational arguments, but I've only found that's not possible. But I know God is a living God and He's the same as he was in the time of the bible.

I know that everywhere around the world, God is still doing miracles today. And lately I've been watching services from a church in Singapour over the internet. This church has 20.000 members, so that's quite a crowd (that kind of churches are called "megachurches").

The past sunday they had a healing service, for which they had a preacher from America as guest. I know that God can do healing miracles though many Christians all over the world, but clearly God is using this man in a special way to do many miracles.

This video is quite long, so if you only want to see the healing part go to 1:51:00 and watch it from there, but the healing is only a part of the service of course, there is also worship and a preach...

Trying to convert people to Christianity is one thing, but using ridiculous miracle workers as an example to do it is just plain hilarious.

Are you trying to ruin any reputation you might have had?

What New Scientist has to say about prayers

Quote:
...A third group of patients received the same prayers as the first group, but were told they were being prayed for. Of these, 59 per cent suffered complications - significantly more than the patients left unsure of whether they were receiving prayers....

That could be more accurately called what new scientists says about "people who know they are being prayed for", no? But I am just being pedantic. I can't decide if god would win, or the boredome elephant would win, but I know this, we would all be screwed. DEVESTATION

I only quoted that part because it's freaking funny. Anyway if you had read the article you would've seen what New Scientist says about "people who don't know they're being prayed for" too. Eg - If the praying itself helped:

Quoting Newscientist:
The prayers made no detectable difference. In the first month after surgery, 52 per cent of prayed-for patients and 51 per cent of non-prayed-for patients suffered one or more complications, the researchers found (American Heart Journal, vol 151, p 934).

Fifty Fifty no effects thank you.

I was simply pointing out your misleading text. Who gives a shit if prayers work or not. You're just doing why PB Gamer wants arguing about religion when in reality nobody gives a fucking shit.

But anyway, this survey is still not giving you much information it doesn't say if anyone had better then normal recovery? It doesn't say if the people who suffered complications were likely to suffer then.

It doesn't say how the 1802 people were chosen to be tested. Also splitting 1802 into three does not give an accurate enough sample to expolate the results. You'd need around 1200 in each of the three groups chosen at random from the large population of the world.

Were the people undertaking the bypasses deeply religous? Also what about the people who prayed for them, are they devout? Are they without sing, did they really give a shit about the people they were praying for.

If this is the sort of shit new scientist prints it's a fucking rag. I might as well take a survey on the effects of kicking pebbles to make people better.

First we take 1000 people undergoing bypasses. Then we get one group of people to kick pebbles for them 2 thirds of them.

We will tell 1/3 that people are kciking pebbles to make them better etcetera.

Now, do you want to talk about God versus the Boredome Elephant?

Yes indeed that will have the same effect as praying.

Anyway you're just being pedantic questioning like that, no-one can ever take all circustances into account as that would require a duplicate of the universe and you know it. We have models, logic and reasoning to accomplish the same. You're only doing that because you want to talk about the boredome elephant.

My point was that their survey was flawed i.e. the effect of the pebbles was not measurable.

It is not being pedantic it is how studies are taken. It is an important part of judging the results of a study. You need to know several things about people in the study and how they are chosen. Otherwise the data is useless.

73% of people know that a survey can be manipulated to give any result.

These religion threads are just flame wars, so you don't want to stay on topic, because you didn't stay on topic.

I linked to and quoted a scientific article concerning praying, look up, it's nothing like flaming.

Do you think then that prayers work or what? Every research would be flawed in your eyes. The point is that such research has a lot less flaws than the theory of somebody stating praying does work.

I don't know if you have noticed, but bringing the gospel to a non-Christian community, doesn't exactly give you a good reputation (neigher here or in the real world). But if I have to humiliate myself to save a soul, that's more than worth it.

I'm telling you that people are getting healed through prayer, and I've heared of Christian docters refering to prayer for healing to Christian patients who can't be helped medically.

Also for example patients who are healed from cancer usually have a medical history. The docters know of their desease. Still this preacher pointed out that he gets 20 testimonies per month of cancer patients who are healed miraculously, which is medically confirmed...
