Not yet. Current host doesn't allow big files to be uploaded - new hosting is being worked on. [Edited on September 25, 2005 by Rincewind] ____________ Personal website: http://www.loijson.com |

Word of warning guys very few hosts allow large files to be uploaded via php, it kills their Mysql traffic. Integrate a perl upload module instead, and have the php record all the files in the directory!

Actually depending on the hosts security you could try changing the php.ini variables via a htaccess file. However its very unlikely this will work and until you remove the htaccess file you won't be able to access the site via http. ____________ Dazzy |

Hostonce provides a Microsoft based solution. Isn't there some sort of ftp solution you could implement? ____________ I see 57,005 people. |

We contemplated this but it got a bit complicated and had a massive potential for abuse and fuck ups. Regarding FTP the best way we could think of was having a Java applet that uploaded using FTP. But none of us could be bothered.

Another, stop gap measure, could be have a normal php upload, if the files larger than 2mb get them to upload it via cgi, then enter a link to it in the php upload module, that way the database integration is automatic.

If it's bigger than 2mb you could just reject saying zip file corrupt or something. Or auto ban the user.

How big a file do you want to upload and is it going to be anonymous upload? There are loads of Perl upload scripts did you try just uploading with Perl on its own or was it the script that integrates with PHP and shows a progress bar? The main problem (apart from not knowing perl) would be if you wanted people sharing session data between PHP and Perl. Annoymous ftp is another option, no applet required or go as far as setting up an ftp account for everyone.

This has all been thunk over before. A perl upload script would be ideal if someone could get it to pass the rest of the form data forward to a php script after handling the file upload. Mega-upload did this but none of us could get it working. Annonymous ftp would be good except again, there'd be no way for people to submit the other crap like name, description, genre blah blah. Also unless I'm mistaken people could overwrite files with the same name that way. ____________ |
