Today was truly fucked up.  I'm home alone, and today at about 14:00, I was about to go buy fireworks and oliebollen. I hoped to be back before 16:00, as the weather would go bad then. So there I go, on my bicycle through the snow (luckily it had stopped snowing). I hadn't even left my neighbourhood yet and my hands were half frozen, so I decided to go back and get gloves. Anyway, back at home I left my bicycle in the front yard and went inside, but my gloves were nowhere to be found. My mother had probably hidden them somewhere in the garret after the last holiday. So I call my mother, and she tells me that my gloves are probably in the garret innit. So I went looking there and being frustrated by not finding them, I accidentily cut my thumb open and the damn thing starts bleeding. Anyway, the weather had become so bad by then that it would just be silly to still leave home (it was snowing badly and the sky looked pretty dark). So annoyed by the fact that I was unable to buy fireworks and oliebollen as I planned, I went outside to put my bicycle back in the bicycle shed. In my frustration I closed the frontdoor while my keys were still inside.  So I had locked myself out, my parents would still be gone for  Then, without a coat I walked to my grandfather and grandmother's home all the way through the snow, luckily they live in the same village though not very close. They provided me with a key and drove me back. Now I'm back at home and I have no oliebollen or fireworks. If you're all alone on new years day, I think that's quite a sad story indeed. You see what you did there? You made my cry! (well not really, but in a smiley kind of way. Big boys don't cry, of course. *ahem*) /me looks around if anybody was watching

Isn't it also "humor" in American? Quoting PBgamer: If you're all alone on new years day, I think that's quite a sad story indeed. They'll be back by then.  My bad,"a couple of days" --> "1.5 days". And a happy end after all, my grandfather bought me oliebollen with his car after my miserable failure, and my parents would look in stores for fireworks in the place they are now.
