Yes I think (know) so that Christians are attacked on their faith today. Though I thought in the westernworld, Christians where attacked by words, not violence. Thus I was kind of surprised to see this video:
Preacherman gets beaten.

It's a verry biblical thing though. The bible sais that Jesus suffered and we are no more than Jesus. Of course Jesus did pay the price for our sins, but when we preach the gospel, we face the same problems Jesus faced. It may even be that we have to lay down our lives for our faith. Even today there are countries where Christians are tortured and killed for their faith...

Don't get me wrong though, Christians should not be violent. If we suffer for our faith that is an honour, but when a Christian gets violent, that is a sin.

I also realise that this is my second "God topic" in a short period of time. Then again, I do like to keep it (globally at least) on topic. If the topic doesn't interest you, just don't reply. If no one is interested in this kind of topics anymore, then you'd think I'd get the message :D

I've found a Dutch site about it, but I think you'd understand it globally:
A map that shows all countries where Christians are prosecuted.

A table that shows in which countries Christians are treated worst because of their faith

Fine, so people who believe in your faith are minimalised everywhere else. I bet you minimalise and dislike those of other faiths yourself. Because of a giant threat or whatever Al Qaeda possesses followers of Islam are beaten and marginalised globally. And then there's the sudden increase in violent anti-semetic attacks. So why should I give a fuck about some people of your faith dying when your ignoring plenty from others?

I somewhat agree with TheM13 actually. My point was a bit over the top seen in a different perspective. I think freedom of religion is important though, for Christianity, Judaism and Islam as well as any other religion. I do think that killing people for faith crosses the line of freedom by far though...

People in that time where kept dumb, the only biblical knowledge was what the church told them (which usually wasn't verry biblical). So basically the Church was an institute that had too mutch power over the people.

Today the people have access to the bible them selves, they don't depend on the preacherman. If a Christian today doesn't know mutch about the bible, that's his own fault. Besides today the Bible is translated into most languages, so it's also understandable for the people.

EDIt (Sandmans reply appeared after I clicked the reply button):
I think that the Church and religion have done a lot of damage. So yeah, there certainly have been Christians doing a bad job. Christians are humans too, you know. I make mistakes too (like talking too mutch about my faith to people who don't want to hear). You should try to keep looking for what is right in the eyes of God.

Look, dude, I can't talk for everyone, but I respect your faith. The Bible and any other holy text can easily be taken as (and frequently is) a guide to help people who don't know what to do with themselves. Religion gives people direction, but I don't have any belief in anything. I lost my faith in a God about the same time as I lost my faith in Santa.

I do have to advice you not to talk about religion on an internetforum not aimed at religion. It will result in a flamewar, and people will get insulted.

just my two cents,
