I do like the idea of lighting up threads that are unread (makes it easy to find them), but how about displaying if you have contributed to a thread? That's often handy too...

Interesting idea... do you have an example to show from another forum or something? Or is this a new idea? Any thoughts on how it should be indicated to the user? And how far back should it "look"? I mean, if you're a forum regular chances are you've contributed to most threads at some point - even if it was the second post of a 5 page thread. An alternative feature that a lot of forums have is the option to "subscribe" to the thread so that replies are sent to your email address. That's a nice idea but in my experience it just means you get sent a lot of crap you don't want. Maybe there could be a feature where you can flag certain topics to be "watched", then you can bring up your watched threads with the click of a link on the forum itself. ____________ |

A Dutch board I visit has that feature, the forum has loads of bugs and "unimplemented features", but this is the one thing I like about that forum. I agree that it shouldn't look too far once it starts to slow down the loading of the page. The forum that has this feature doens't show up too mutch threads on a page, but I don't think that should be the solution. Maybe you could search in the users latest # posts to see if he/she contributed to the thread recently, but then you should have a list of recent posts of each user :S... ____________ |

Personally I like the thread watching idea. The tickbox to flag it as watched could be right next to the post submit button and everything AND we could then easily get it to show a marker next to each thread on that user's watched list.
