Is anyone else supremely annoyed by the proliferation of video tutorials? I can't watch come dine with me and a tutorial at the same time. This needs to be addressed promptly by the w3c.

Video tutorials piss me off more than anything. They add nothing at all.

I would rather have the text there and a bunch of pictures that some low-quality grainy shit of someones monitor as they chat away with their horrible nerdshoe voice.

I can't watch a video without interrupting everything else I'm doing. I can't copy-paste a part of a video to someone/something else. I can't skim a video. I can't read a few select paragraphs of a video to find out if it's what I want.

FUCK VIDEOS.

Exactly. IF they were used to back up text tutorials that would be sufficent. I guess it's harder to write than it is to record.

I disagree to some extend. Sometimes a video tutorial can explain much more than plain text or even screenshots do.

For instance, when a bug is reported at my work, it's in some situations really hard to understand what went wrong, even if they include screenshots. However when they include the video, you can see exactly what happened, and it can clarify a lot, without needing to ask all sorts of questions about how it happened.

Coincidentically, I watched video tutorials yesterday. The subject was "autoit". I mainly skimmed through it (forwarding the play bar of the movie) because I was not applicable towards the standard "anti-programmatorically-educated" audience.

Yes, this anyone else is me too. I totally agree with Fiona's comment on why it's so annoying. Well, like PB said... there are some cases in which it has an added value. This is as likely as a sane comment on YouTube though.

The problem with video tutorials imo is that it is often explained tooooo sloooow and you can hear the "narrator" smack and breathe yuuuuuuuck!

if it's so annoying, why watch the video in the first place?

I don't find the video annoying but most of the time the narrator who talks way too close to the microphone making it sound very dull (literally), often with a monotonic zooming tune and a blocked up nose hearing all clicks and keybaord touches on the background.

I am very happy with the wide spread number of video tutorials. Very thankful for it.

Ever heard of video demuxing? This is how you trim videos and copy paste them to someone else. Video manipulation is an art and I love to do it. =P

Most programming videos I watch are 720p crisp clear ones. I have even seen a video where an Asian guy talks with an accent and the quality of the audio sucks a bit, but the guy is so good at teaching that the rest just doesn't matter.

I often go on YouTube to learn about programming. Reading through boring dry and eye-tearing ten thousand page long API's is not particularly the way I like to spend my learning time. They are more a reference.

Also, audio and visual elements are very important in learning. With text, you only limit yourself.

Well structured videos have introductions with fade in/outs; This way, you know what part goes where.

Regarding watching two things at the same time: if you want to learn, your focus must be on one thing. Well, but that's me. I'm just a one-thing-only-focus guy.

Sincerely,
