Hi all! You might like to know that Fenix has been accepted in the official Debian repos (that means it will probably go into Ubuntu Gutsy+1). In order to be accepted, some patches have been applied to the latest CVS version, mostly code cleanup issues, but there are some interesting ones: - Fully gettextized. Now the primary language in Fenix is English, can be translated into Spanish (this has been partially done) or any other language, the language is chosen based in yuor environment. - It can read dcbs from stdin/write them to stdout. - There is now a global plugins dir, in order to easy plugin installation through apt-get. - Code cleanup. - Some others. The work has been done by Miriam Ruiz (http://www.miriamruiz.es/weblog/ the particular post detailing all the patches is in Spanish, sorry, but I'm quite sure she'll be glad to answer any questions in English). Hum, by the way, Juan has said the changes have been merged back into Bennu. http://packages.debian.org/fenix http://packages.debian.org/fenix-dev http://packages.debian.org/uns … -plugins-system http://packages.debian.org/uns … nix-plugin-mpeg Maybe some others. Hope you like the news. Hum, by the way, the packages work flawlessly in Ubuntu, even in Gutsy. And the latest CVS is, by far, much faster than older Linux Fenix releases. Hello josebagar, bit late but welcome to Boolean Soup. Quote: You might like to know that Fenix has been accepted in the official Debian repos (that means it will probably go into Ubuntu Gutsy+1). I know nothing about this stuff, but does this mean it will be a default application installed in certain Debian based Linux installations? Or just that it's labeled 'Debian-fit' ? Quote: Fully gettextized. Now the primary language in Fenix is English, can be translated into Spanish (this has been partially done) or any other language, the language is chosen based in yuor environment. Does this also means all variable names and comments in the Fenix code, and error messages have all been translated to English? That would be great. ____________ Personal website: http://www.loijson.com |

Thanks all Being accepted into official Debian repos means that in the current Debian version, and in the next Ubuntu version (and in later versions, of course) you can install Fenix just by starting a console and writing: apt-get install fenix The internationalization menas that all messages Fenix outputs are now displayed in English by default. If your environment says otherwise, and a translation is available, they will be displayed in any other lang. I'm not sure about the comments in the code itself. Also, Juan said he wouldn't update Fenix anymore, meaning that the changes have not yet been made "official", you can grab the sources for the patched Fenix version here: http://www.miriamruiz.es/code/ … 93.20070803.tgz And you can compile them in windows yourslef. Next Bennu release will include the patches by default for all the platforms supporting them (not quite sure if gettext is available in GP32). Hope this answers your questions ____________ |

Very nice! This will probably help spark more interest in Fenix as well as simplfy matters for us who use it. I especially like that a plugin-system is included. Hopefully that will result in more plugins and libraries available in Linux.
