Hello!

When I opened Flamebird 2.0 in a non-admin account, it wouldn't highlight my code anymore.
When I opened it with an admin account, it highlighted my code.
However, after closing Flamebird 2.0 admin opened, and launching it with non-admin, it then highlighted my code correctly.

What gives? :)
Is this some registry function or temporary in-memory loading?

Just curious.

Happy programming!

Treval

Flamebird is developed by Danko, who is on this forum. I'm sure he'll reply if he notices this topic.

Hi, I visit this message board quite often but for these two weeks I've been a little more busy than usual.

That's is something related to dlls and ActiveX controls. Flamebird try to register them when the application starts, and Windows doesn't allow non-admin users to do this (the same would ocurr when installing applications that requires this kind of components).
Depending on the OCX and dlls you already have installed in your system, Flamebird may crash on init or simply lack of some functionality (highlight in your case).

When you open Flamebird from an admin account, OCX and dll are registered in the System so you can now use it from any account.

This is, of course, not obvious and for me the best solution would be to create an installation program. Although this would not solve the problem, it is more clearer to the user (a non-admin user should know that applications usually requires admin permissions).
But people tend to be reluctant to install programs (they usually prefer unzip&run)...

Anyway, note that Flamebird 2.11 (in fact it is Flamebird 0.11) has a bug which makes that syntax is not highlighted the fist time the IDE is loaded, no matter if you are admin or non-admin user. This is fixed on the development version of Flamebird (Flamebird MX) which is likely to be released in a relatively short period of time (compared to the 3 years that have gone by...).

Some news about FB development status can be found at my personal worklog (http://dariocutillas.wordpress.com), where I post some information from time to time.

And last, you can post any FB-related question here, in the english section of the spanish fenix forum or in what it was supposed to be the official english forum of Flamebird (https://sourceforge.net/forum/ … forum_id=428186 , but nobody uses it). Be sure I will answer as soon as possible :).

Thanks for asking.
Danko
