Hi. I used to use DIV a little a couple of years ago with my old Win98 PC, and so still have the manual for DIV1. I wanted to get started programming with fenix, and so I've downloaded FlameBird 2.11 from www.flamingbird.com (the english fenix community). But I was wondering what is the best way to get started with fenix? And how the f*** do you achive 3D-ness, because as far as I could see, DIV didn't do 3D at all.

Do not try and achieve 3Dness straight away. I tried it when I first got DIV 2... big mistake. Div/Fenix are mostly languages for 2D game creation - Div was originally made for retro game creation, therefore 3D commands are lacking in both. Try Blitz3D, Darkbasic, Delphi or C#/C++ for 3D game creation (note to regulars: yes I know I just aligned two amateur game creation packages along side a less used language and a professional games creation language, and heres a pre-emptive strike for you: stfu). As for your first games - well, try simple things first. Galaga/space invader style shooter, PONG, things like that. Then progress onto platformers, RPG's, TBS and RTS games. I didn't really have the best start in DIV, I thought it was a click and drag program, and therefore was frustrated with DIV for quite a while. ____________ My site still needs updating and redesigning. If you have used DIV then you will fit into Fenix easily. As for an IDE, most of us use Context, which isn't designed with Fenix in mind, but coupled with a syntax highlighter it works fine. Now there was a topic somewhere with quick start info... ____________ laffo |
