No, of course not - you have to create it all from scratch. That isn't too hard to understand is it? :P You got to do it all yourself (or with somebody in your team)! Yes you are allowed to use the standard midibank (with instruments) of your sound card. You can use this to make music with applications that use the midibank, like Vpiano.

Certainly, you're free to use programs like Ejay, Magix music maker, modplugtracker etc. to create your songs - again basic samples (like the midibank, or the very basic samples that come on the cd) can be used as building blocks. :)

How can the judges prove that a piece of media wasn't created by the user??

It would be far simpler for the judges to decide that free media is acceptable. I have a musically inclined friend that is happy to give me music but doesn't want to be part of a team.

Surely at the end of the day, gameplay is the most important aspect. Media is important, but without a decent game, it just end up as eye/ear candy.

It would be better for the user to state that all media is was orignal and copyright free or state that permission has been given to use a media.

I agree, i think we should be allowed to use free media for the sake of spending more time on gameplay development, rather than on drawing or modelling.

Then you would be cheating. Apart from it being extremely unfair to all the other entrants, the entry would also be immediatly rejected when found out about. This is a competition for fun, it's not a test you have to pass. It's about who can create the best game from scratch all by himself, hence 'competition'.

It would not be simpler at all. I agree gameplay is most important, but graphics and sounds also play a fair part in a game's quality, and that's how games will be judged. The whole purpose of a competition is that the one who is best at creating the whole game wins, not the one who happened to find the best graphics or tunes on the internet. Once more, that's why it's called 'competition'. It's for fun, it's not a test you have to pass with an A+. Someone might be better at coding, someone else at sounds and somebody else at graphics. That's how life is, nobody's perfect.

The rules aren't discussable by the entrants or something - everything should be created from scratch and free media are not allowed.

Just give it your best shot.

That's fair enough.

One thing I would like to clarify - the Submit program rules states "Click the submit button once and once only. Uploading multiple times guarantees a nice fat rejection"

Does this mean that we are not allowed to update entries (say we discover bugs etc.)? I do notice that there is a version number text field though... ???

What if I submit a demo a month early, then an update and the full game a few weeks later, will my game be rejected?

Oh, updating entries when you've discovered bugs (edit: or want to upload a demo) before the deadline is fine of course. They will certainly not be rejected.

That upload rule is only there for the people who keep pressing the submit button because 'nothing seems to happen' (while the game is uploading) and then results in multiple (possibly broken) uploads of the exact same program. It's like tripple posting on a forum and such. It's only meant to keep people from going click frenzy on the submit buton. But even if it happens by accident for a competition entry then the entry certainly won't be rejected. :)

I have no time either. When I get home I hardly have the energy to even "think" about my game. For example yesterday I came home, but I fell asleep on the couch.

I think I'll be able to make something but it will take ages to complete.
