There's no rush. We need to code a working site first.

Nothing has been lost.

Basically, Fasttrak has been sold. i'm currently snowed under with other projects and div isnt even on the radar :(

DIV-Arena will be back. In one form or another. I dont mind pointing it here for now.

Hey Mike, welcome to Booleansoup. Good to hear you're still alive. As you see there's a lot of old div-arena members who moved to this place, a game development community being constructed by us. It's a bit broader than DIV-Arena: it's about multiple languages/packages for game creation, mostly game development in general. Ofcourse the Fenix/DIV part is the strongest represented here for now. And you should really check out the Soup Arena skin. :P

I think you don't have to fear any user pressure anymore if it comes to the development of DIV DX. Seems everybody went his own way. This ofcourse doesn't mean we're not supporting the creation of it, I'm sure a lot of people will be happy if it gets finished in the end.

Hey JWL, thanks for the welcome. I have been looking at this site for a while, and am very happy that you guys have set this up on your own. There is a lot more happening than I could ever reveal on a forum but i'm sure at a future "meet" I can let you know. ;)

If anybody has MSN please feel free to add me. mgreen@polaron.co.uk

omg it rhymes so nicely!

i will be studying Java for my uni course, like really hard-core programming, but for now Fenix seems to be the best option for games coding

so Ferret, questions from a Fenix newbie(!) ... can i port my code and graphics over to Fenix without any problems? and what is all this talk about Fenix bugs?

also is the sound engine any good? because the DIV 2 sound engine was noticably worse in comparison to DIV.

and any other advantages to coding in Fenix? apart from the main thing which is programming in XP ...

Fenix will load all of DIV's graphics formats fine. There are Fenix bugs, most are are easy to work around if you use version 0.83b not 0.84. The sound is more than good enough.

As for advantages, I dunno, I mean the langurge is similar to DIV, it's cross-platform, it works.

ive tried fenix before and while there is nothing wrong with the language or compiler itself, the fundamental problem (for me atleast) is that it isnt wrapped up into a single nice easy to use package with all the graphics and tools stuck together. Im lazy, sue me.

I find that one of it's strengths, I'm currently using ConTEXT as an IDE and I can play with it and set it up to to do what I like, and because I can also use whatever graphical software I don't have to feel restricted to this paint-like-thing.

DIV is justified in that respect because it's like this one-window DOS thing. But under Windows I can quickly nab whatever I like from the taskbar and switch between crap.

Meh, never had problems with sound. I heared the ugly.ogg (I believe it was from Woody? O_O). Just set it to 44100Hz and 16bit and you're fine.
I agree with Ferret about the IDE and it so happens I use ConTEXT as well, however I believe 0.84a is the PLAEC 2 B - it does not have much bugs, but some slight improvement in functionality (and maybe speed, I'm not certain) over 0.83.
Fenix has multiple advantages over DIV: the most obvious is that it runs in Windows XP, but also the other OSes like Linux. Furthermore it has 16bit colors, dynamic memory stuff and file modyfing equipment (some of this was in DIV2, but it is collecting dust here since I did (or rather didn't) hear the sound).
As for converting DIV games, it can be done, yes, but there are some basic differences that will take time.
If you are planning a major game any time soon, I suggest you wait till the new Fenix core is about, because it will be totally different from the current one and probably the syntax of the language will change. Too bad for my RTS. :(
In any case, good luck, new Fenix'ers!

That ugly.ogg made me laugh but I have never ran into any sound problems at all.
Don't listen to Sandman, 0.84 is screwed.
Especially don't listen to Sandman because that new version of Fenix is about as far away as DX is.

Version 0.84a is great and I can advice anyone to use it. It is quite a bit faster than 0.83b.

Version 0.84b is something totally different, don't use it - it has a bug that makes priorities not work which makes it pretty much unusable.

I use Context as IDE.

And to add some improvements of Fenix over DIV to what Sandman just mentioned is that it has better built-in pathfinding and nice graphical thingies like alpha, blur, mode2x etc.

I have made some setup help for ConTEXT for how I have it setup. I'm using batchfiles because without I ran into trouble and other .dll files could not be included. Hope you have some use of it:

Maybe you guys should talk about this in another thread or god forbid somebody could write an article on getting started with Fenix and the different text editors one can use.
