Not much progress
However, I have come up with a good idea for the controls, which I think works well (lots better than the old system)
It was kinda based on the idea of joypads having 2 d-pads (like the Playstation Joypads). But on the PC this means using WASD for the left and IJKL for the right. J and L move left and right, A and D dive left and right (respectively), I jumps to the right and W jumps to the left, S rolls to the left and K rolls to the right. You get the idea
Left shift and [/] keys control the gun and space the sword attacks
The other thing you may have noticed I based it on was typing position, so it's kinda comfortable and works equally well on laptops (well, I've tested it on mine, and it works equally well, and my laptop's keyboard is a pretty standard layout)

New worklog
I've decided to try and motivate myself to continue this project by making a worklog for it. At the moment there's almost complete character movement and some animation, but that's about it. However I do think that those two things should be the most important part of the game so I want to get them right.
The game is designed to be a very fast and fun affair with lots of in the air acrobatics and other such goodness. Fighting is going to be simple with just a sword and some-miscelaneous-projectile-weapon (probably will be a bow). Each will have just one key and repeatedly pushing the sword key while hitting the enemy will gain you combos. Now I know that doesn't sound interesting, but the idea is to keep that simple as controlling the character's acrobatics is more part of the game than using a 15-key-impossible-combo-that-kills-everything.
So, at the min there's running, jumping, double jumping, wall-hanging, rolling, diving, rolling backwards and diving backwards all implemented and working pretty well, as well as a hardness map system that isn't ridden with bugs like my last one :). This still image is probably going to look pretty boring but when running at 40-60fps and with the speed of the movement then it's much more fun.
Coming next is more arm/weapon-related animation and some attacking implemented.
I need some help with controlls though, it's all a keyboard affair, but I'm not sure whether to use the arrow-keys or WASD for the main directional movement, considering that the other hand will have to handle at least 4 other commands and I want it to be at least somewhat intuitive. What would you prefer?
