Crystals of Xaz is a Dreamcast and Gamepark game written using Fenix. This game was originally based on the Istappen source code as a learning experience for me, but it's taken on a life of its own. More information about Fenix for Dreamcast can be found at http://atari.vg-network.com. This is the first mention of this project on this board, but I've posted about it on various DC and GP news sites in the past few months.

Work continues steadily on the game, and it's shaped up to be really fun! I'm currently rewriting the enemy generation code to support multiple enemies, added level (now called Quadrants) transitions, bonus enemies that fly across the screen and drop items when shot, the ability to warp ahead levels, "skil-step" code (allows you to select a starting level based on the last level you finished, a la Tempest arcade game), and have found an artist to whip up some real graphics for me. There have been so many changes in the past month that the original code I worked from (Istappen, http://fenixonfire.gp32x.de/html/sources.html, scroll to the bottom) has been completely obliterated and none of the original code has been retained. High score saving will be a definite for the GP version, but due to Dreamcast Fenix not supporting VMU saving, the DC version won't have high score save :(

Here's a current screenshot using placeholder sprites:

Although I'm targeting the Dreamcast and GP handhelds, and their limitations, while writing the game, I am considering a PC port. Since Fenix only supports 8-bit mode7, I'll probably just up the resolution for the PC version.

I'd have a gp2x by now if gp2x.co.uk didn't screw up, so anyway when (or if?) it eventually arrives I'll try your game.
