I was just wondering what software everyone uses for 3D modelling.

I am just getting into this and downloaded Blender3D and would like to hear other people's opinions on the software available.

And how do you find it compares to other software such as Maya, Blender3D, Lightwave, etcetera?

I use anim8or, it's very user friendly, it can do al the basic stuff you need, no fancy things you will never use. And it's freeware.

Price and fur, oh and compatibility with mods. Its my friends software so I don't really own it, I actually use Anim8r, but find it quite limited unless you

My friends personal favourite is animation master - i think thats what its called- which also costs money.

To be honest i personnaly think unless doing professsional work for a console or pc equivilant use a free one

I use 3DSMax 6 most of the time. I find it good for low-poly modelling, but an absolute bastard to texture in.

Metasequoia is a good simple low-poly modeller made by some Japanese peeps. I recommend giving it a quick look.

I have a lot of friends doing digital animation for their degree, and they practically live in 3d max. I swear, I sometimes watch them using the program for 4 hours, and it looks like they've done nowt.

It is also true that it's a bitch to texture in.

I love using Google SketchUP for creating 3D models. It doesn't do the best rendering, but you can then export the model into another program like 3D studio to render.

Here is a 3D model of a handgun (animated gif, 1.11 MB)

I know they made star wars 3D animations in the newer episodes with lots of stuff including Maya, so I don't think it's easy software... I tried animator a while ago and it went so so..
