C++ 2D Shooter project (Htbaa's Worklog)
Milestone 3 finished
Finally! The 3rd milestone has been finished! It took a bit longer then expected but I'm satisfied with the result.
OpenGL rendering has been optimized more so converting the SDL_Surfaces to a OpenGL texture is a bit faster now. The bug where the texts generated by SDL_TTF were not anti-aliased properly is now fixed as well. The per-pixel alpha value wasn't being used when converting to a texture.
The 5th enemy is done as well and is by far the hardest enemy in the game. Just like I wanted to! The mean guy fires a homing missile and then keeps shooting bursts of lasers whilst doing some tricky maneuvers.
The homing missiles are done as well. They're curving in a more realistic way and the smoke trails aren't as CPU intensive anymore. Although I'm still not totally happy with it, it'll do for a while :-).
Now it's time for milestone number 4. Perhaps I'll release a small demo to show off the framerate improvement :-).

htbaa, all sounds quite exciting.
You should put a demo up soon, you may find we all have good feedback for you - as though we were your personal gametesters and seriously would be nice to see one.
Any framerate improvements are good ones, you never know whereabouts your game is likely to slow down.
Keep going it sounds cool.
p.s. can we have a game snap or two?

I tried taking some with FRAPS but it doesn't take the smoke trails right. Perhaps that's due to the specifications of my laptop.
But I could always try it on my main machine, although I would need to boot to Windows Vista for that :-).

Just discovered in some of the taken screenshots that all the image have slight purple borders around them. But I think that can be fixed rather easily.
I found a bug in the missile targeting system as well. After a couple of deaths the missiles no longer aim at you. But I think that's something minor :-).

You could always resort to a good old digital camera for a screenshot.
