Blitz Basic isn't even being sold anymore. The leading product now is BlitzMax, with Blitz3D still being supported and Blitz 3D SDK was also released a short while ago. Now the topic is here anyway, anyone actually using BlitzMax or Blitz3D? After drooling over it's features for a few days I actually starting experimenting with BlitzMax today. I'm impressed. The language is BASIC, but it has OOP support which is great. Also being able to import your own C/C++ code is a great plus. And there are a ton of extra modules you can use (including some impressive Physics modules). I'm currently running the trial version (although I do have the full version in a not so legal way). If I'm still playing with it when the trial ends I'll buy it. The price isn't that bad at all plus it's multi platform :-). ____________ blog.htbaa.com |

I surely hope I don't have to take the drooling part seriously. I've never really liked Darkbasic, which is also BASIC and also 3D and yet still another forum (??) I don't really prefer 3D over 2D anyway. Take Crysis for example: graphics of uber quality, and amazing effects which leave you awed... Unfortunately the game is as boring as looking at a poop! Although, maybe BlitzMax still is different. I might try it out if I have time. [Edited on March 10, 2008 by Dennis] ____________ Kwakkel |

You're right Htbaa, the name was a bit out of date. I renamed this forum, and I also added "Bennu" to the DIV family forum. As for me I haven't used any of the Blitz products (except for going through some Blitz3D tutorials years ago), but I must say Blitz3D has always been very attractive to me, not because of the language but because of what you can do with it in 3D. In case I ever make a 3D game, I'd make a choice between Fenix & 3D dll and Blitz3D/BlitzMax. ____________ Personal website: http://www.loijson.com |

BlitzMax doesn't have build in 3D functions. But you can use OpenGL directly. You can use Blitz3D with BlitzMax through the Blitz3D SDK. And no Dennis, I haven't been drooling for real. But I have been reading BlitzMax stuff and checking out examples for the past few days. And they impressed me. Mostly because BlitzMax has OOP support. I don't think you can compare DarkBasic with BlitzMax, BlitzMax is something on a different level. BlitzBasic, Blitz3D and DarkBasic are all just Basic. BlitzMax is Basic with OOP! ____________ blog.htbaa.com |

Oh wow, the BlitzMax demo is quite bugged. Using Import() to include your code doesn't work quite when using SuperStrict. So I tried my not so legal copy and my code worked as expected. So, I'm off to buy me a license :). Edit: BlitzMax has been purchased! [Edited on March 11, 2008 by Htbaa] ____________ blog.htbaa.com |
