Upon searching through some old hard disks, i've found what looks like a 100% backup, (including forum) of the complete div-arena.co.uk site from the second it was turned off.

So if anybody wants their wip.. or game.. let me know

I may invest some time in putting it online, I may even re-enable the forum if anybody cares (which I doubt)

All the best

Mike

I think we'd very much appreciate the games at least so we can mirror a bunch here.

Not sure anyone would be too interest in rejoining the website, especially since we've all moved on from DIV and the Fenix users are based here and elsewhere. But It's great that you've found it all and we're more than happy to keep all the content here. :)

I've just tried the div trial that was hosted on the site under dosemu and everything works perfect, although a little slow as my laptop sucks.

If anybody wants their games contact me saying what games you want and i'll give them to you.

If the general consensus is one of no interest in div-arena being put back online then i'll just leave it on my local machine, for another day.

Cool to hear! So Mike, what have you been up to for the last few years?

DOSBox works as well. It runs the DIV2 games pretty fast on my PC (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz).

Long shot, but you don't happen to have a copy of that Windows interpreter that you used to get some competition games and other stuff (Bert The Barbarian for instance) working in Windows do you?

Even if you did I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to do anything with it legally, but you can't blame me for trying.

Make a torrent for the entire gamebase. It's only a few GB.

Well, as they aren't actually my games to do that with, no.

This is why i've said I'll give the games to the authors, then they can do with them what they like.

In that case, I would like a copy of my own games, then.

Mike, that sounds like corporate piracy paranoia - no DIV user will sue you for enabling people access to their once uploaded DIV game again through a torrent, I can guarantee you that, unless someone got the idea from this thread of course. ;-)

Putting everything back online however would be far more convenient than a torrent - nobody would seed such a torrent in the first place. It would be nice for those that want their games and nice for those that want to browse the forum in a nostalgic mood, and it might even come in handy with coding. In case you put up the site, you probably should put up news that DIV DX won't be finished, just for a clear closure.

Otherwise you'll be haunted forever and ever!

I think the only people that will be interested anyway are the people who visit this site - i.e. ex div arena regulars who still use Fenix. I think the best thing to do would be just to post a news item about it and refer people to this forum thread where they can request their games from Mike.

Well now it's more of a case of "can't" be finished. There's nothing stopping you making your own DIV derivative though. (ala Fenix)

I would like to play Hero The Realm, Bert the Barbarian and Galactic Assault once more... But i guess i wouldn't be able to run em anyway with windows XP, would i? Still, it would be great if this site could host em.

Various DOS emulators can play DIV games successfully as Mike has already proven with a screenshot. (The complete IDE works, not just the games)

I don't mind Hero going up on booleansoup. It's for the best as far as I'm concerned that people still play it.

Everyone can vouch for me that i am Mith. Right guys?

Rincewind, you can't take everyone's hard work and bung it up on a torrent without their permission. I think Mike is right.

Yes, I agree with you here Squarepusher, it's much better for everyone's old DIV work to remain swept from this planet and never be played by anyone ever again except by the creator. Mike is right theoretically, but that does not make it a useful stance in practice. The same theory probably dictates that Mike isn't allowed to have a backup at home at all not to mention putting it up, as he isn't an Avanquest employee anymore. Eh.

If he keeps them as they are and don't ask money, he can.

Mike's just been the lazy git that he is again.

This torrent idea is magnificent. Maybe Mike could send em to someone else who'd put up a torrent. Or make it a closed one. Or just make it work. Goddamnit.

I didn't say that *YOU* or anybody else couldn't take the div games and make a massive torrent out of it, I just said that *I* wouldn't.

Lots of ex-employees of places have stuff they probably shouldn't have, but that doesnt mean they should make a big torrent out of it and bung it online.

My biggest problem with it right now is that I can't actually tell who's game is who without putting the site back up, something that's already proved an unpopular choice, so a better way may be to provide a site where you can put your div username/password in and it gives you links to your games.
