Last night I was bored, so i made this banner for a metal band some of my firends are in on photoshop. I think its pretty good considering how little time I spend on it.

Btw, I did it all from scratch (appart from the original font, which I found on a free font's site).
What'd'ya think?

Looks pretty cool. I think you over did the bit in front of the first S on the right. I cant tell whether it's a letter or the background. In fact I actually cant read the writing on the right at all. Does it say 'sis'?

My lecturers would probably tell you to develop your ideas.

Yeah, the band's called "Waking Isis", the text is more obvious when you know what it says I suppose.
The first "I" of "ISIS" has wings, I do realise this does make it kinda hard to read that letter, and any ideas of how I could improve that would be appreciated. Here are the other two versions that I did (they're basically the same, but with small modifications):

and...

Any comments/suggestions on how I could improve it?

The I looks like a T. Try leaving ISIS in lower caps or something. The i looks fine in waking.

Yes.

It looks to me as though it says 'Waking 1898', so I gues the S's need a little fixing as well. Overall though, quite good!

There isn't enough contrast between the text and the background especially with the black text. Another problem is when the lightening is white it clashes with the white text. I'd give the lightening a reddish tint so it blends more with the background. The text needs a more contrasting colour to ensure it sticks out from the background. To see what I mean change the text to a yellow colour and the lightening to a red colour. You can maybe leave those angel wings white. If you give me the layers I can show you what I mean.

I get what you mean, when I have time I'll give the lightning and the wings a bluish tint (I want them to contrast the background). I'll also sort out the ISIS text (the I's especially, maybe not the S's, I'll see).

too simple if you want i can make it look realy pro looking...
Im a Graphic Artist as well :) thats what I was studying...

my own criticize:
first dont worry its ok for a start and dont take it personaly, Im saying this in order to let you improve your self more and improve that banner of yours :)

the background is simple cloud effect colored red - simple, the lightning - looks like you tried... you should add more little sharp lightning out of those rays and break there form so it will look like a real thunder - good to look at thunder pictures to understand how it looks like. and the most importent thing is the text! - which I cant understand what is writen there sorry :S, the most importent thing in a banner(advertise) for a band is what is writen inside in it! you should show more of the band style in the text because its what importent catch the eye with the text. the back should support the text and can even add decoration to increas the style feel, add decoration that tells the "watcher" about the band and why its so cool and he should be in their site or what ever :P.

you should mentioned what type of band is it? what kind of music they make? and what there style is? then you can realy make it look realy good :) by designing it by there style and what they want to tell or what ever :P

allways good to see what others done. ;) dont copy just study and learn new things :)

tell me if that helps :P
