To partner up for the competition. Make me lots of sexy electro beats (think: Tiga, 45 Dip, Carl A. Finlow, M.A.N.D.Y., electric six, alice in videoland, etc) and maybe some cool sound effects for my online deathmatch game and win a cool prize :) Alternatively, direct me to such a person and ill give you a cookie. Video editing skills are a plus.

I almost forgot MSN/Email: blinking(DOT)halo(AT)gmail(DOT)com

I'm probably going to end up scoring all of my music, 'cause DanceEJ-style doesn't really fit with pirates, and I've already found a piece for string quartet that I composed a while ago that could be tweaked into the game. However, If I do make anything I don't want that's what you're looking for, then I'll let you know.

Yonni, if you make pieces for string quartet you must have some knowledge of music. :p

what I always find a bit pirate-like, is something in 6/8 or 3/4 time signature. that is in minor. Like in Pirates of the carribean you have the folowing chords (musical scale being lowercase d (D minor)) :

d, C, F, C, d, A, d, d (opening theme when his ship sinks at the dock = 8 bars)

notice the A chord. which is (i think) a harmonic minor change in d minor (natural). So it jumps from a d natural minor to d harmonic minor. (Don't exagurate or it will sound arabic :).

I'll try this at home and you say if it sounds like pirate shit.

Dm, Cmaj, Fmaj, Cmaj, Dm, Am, Dm, Dm; don't you mean?

And I don't know what you mean by a "natural minor", this is no such thing (as far as I'm aware). All minor chords are made from the harmonic minor, the melodic minor is just for melodies (you can't make chords from a scale that is different ascending than decending).

I've just tried that chord structure on my guitar and it sounds pretty cool and piratey.

Try this:
Dm | Cmaj | Fmaj | Cmaj | Dm | Am7 | Dm Am7 | Dm

we (erm belgium) write a minor chord with lowercase letters and a major chord with uppercase, so that's indeed what I meant. (we name notes by it's latin name (do re mi fa so(l) la si(ti)), not cdefgab). Yours sound piratish yeah. lol. I think you meant to leave out that second Am7. adds flavah =)

I just made up this shit, (click the pirate smiley to listen):

:aharr:

does it sound piratish?

Wow.... belgium is confusing.
The second Am7 was supposed to be there, its in the same bar as the Dm before it (each carrying a dotted crotchet duration, assuming you're in 3/4). I added it to break up the long section of Dm chords a bit, also, it sounds cool.

Yeah, that does sound piratey, except for the instuments you used. I'm not quite sure what instruments you chose (assuming you converted this from a MIDI), but if you're sound card isn't very good, its normally a safe bet to stick to piano for a (half) decent sound :yay: .

You're the man Dennis. THE MAN. Such awesome pirate sound. WEGPIRAAT!
Also how about some Em chords in a harmonic setting, followed by the natural keychords of the majoristic levels?
