I'm told DarkBasic doesn't use the BASIC syntax but one more like C++. Is this true? If so, should it really be grouped with BlitzBasic and the others?

Personally I think blitz and dark basic both deserve their own forum. It's not as if anyone who needs dark/blitz basic help is going to post that question in a "*basic" forum.

DarkBASIC is 100% based on the BASIC syntax, geez. Which moron told you that?

Ok you said DarkAPI not Darkbasic.

I did think it was pretty weird calling it Darkbasic otherwise.

Hehe, DarkAPI is indeed a C++ libraryset with the Darkbasic commands.

But anyway, shouldn't Blitz and Darkbasic both have their own forum? I have no idea why the current forum is called "blitz/quick basic", that's kind of weird, worse than *basic even.

If Tads and Click and play have one...

Yeah ok we need to decided properly how to arrange these forums. If we have one for EVERY single language there's going to be too many, don't you think? Especially as we're just starting out with very few visitors.

So what should be grouped with what? I mean TADS is pretty obscure - just one of the many, many text adventure makers. So maybe it should just be covered by a general "adventure game makers" forums. But then again, AGS is a very popular one so it might deserve its own forum. But having said that, TADS is probably very popular too, to a different crowd...

Discuss!

Why not drop minority support?

I mean the users of such tools are better off when they ask on a specialized forum. Just give the big languages/tools a forum. For BASIC you'd probably get a VB, Blitzbasic/Blitz 3D and a Darkbasic forum. It's not as if people program games in quick- or powerbasic anymore, not to mention other versions.

You could group adventure makers, but also you could just drop it. I'm not sure if these forums are going to be used very actively. Maybe put such a forum on trial and remove when it's not populair?

None of them are going to be popular at all when we first start out, lets be honest. Yeah I don't even know what quickbasic is - that was written there already.

Ok then - revising forums again. Let me know what you think.

That's a long list. The word "maker" seems pretty populair. But why do compilers as VC++ and dev-c++ appear (there is also a "C++") in the list? Ah and 'unknown' doesn't make much sense either. But ofcourse these are gamehippo's faults.

And about the forums:

Perhaps change the "DIV/Fenix" forum to "Fenix/DIV" ? Fenix seems more important to me at this time, maybe turn it back in case DX arrives after all.

Maybe put the current languages in a different order. Group the more populair ones, the basic ones and the makers? Or something. So that'd give something like:

C/C++
Visual Basic
BlitzBasic/Blitz 3D
DarkBasic
Fenix/DIV
Java
Click and Create
Game Modding
Others

I am not too sure about Malarkey and the Wastelands being under the "General game development" heading. I think the general stuff should be on top, and the bullshit forums all down.

Maybe move this topic (called "DarkBasic") to the DarkBasic forum? It's in the blitz forum now.:P

Almost, except my first point. ;) Oh and maybe the dots on the end of descriptions should be more consistent, some descriptions have a dot and others don't.'

Looks a lot better now than yesterday!

I like DarkBASIC name this way o_O... then again I just program in it... you could add PureBASIC too... which is mostly for APPS than Games, so shouldn't be grouped with DB... unless you group by language syntax and not orientation :P.

Anyways.. there's DarkSDK which is a library for C++ that has DB commands, so you can mix C++ and DB together without problems... and DB has full basic syntax.. of course with its own commands, but nothing like C++..

Hey DARKGuy, welcome to Booleansoup. :)

Since this website (Booleansoup) is pretty new, we've been shuffling a bit with forum names. In the beginning there was no Darkbasic forum, but just one forum for all BASIC languages. But that was kind of shitty and it's better now. :P

We're trying to focus on game development languages/tools, so if PureBASIC isn't used for games than it probably won't be added. But if somebody comes on this website who happens to program games in PureBASIC, then ofcourse we could add it. :D

Hey DARKGuy, welcome to Booleansoup.

Thanks ^^

PB is mostly used for apps but can do nice 2D games the same way as Fénix does... just with its own BASIC syntax :P

I think a forum name BASIC and then put as description "DarkBASIC, PureBASIC, Visual BASIC, QuickBASIC, PoweBASIC, BlitzBASIC, etc" should work.. and then add sub-forums inside BASIC, each one holding a category for each BASIC language... sounds good to me?

It was taken off of the list because myself and Woody didn't think it was needed.

And plus, I couldn't be arsed doing that.

Hey I'm not letting my self be used! At school I do it to learn from it and at work I get paid for it, but thanks for the compliment about the 2D games though...

Ps. Welcome to the forum ;)
