I think most 3D games run on high frame rates? Also originally on CRT moniters. A game moniter is cool. If I ever have more money in the future I would want to buy one too.

I am done with my MS Outlook course. I am now onto learning MS Excel. This is a lot easier, and slightly closer to programming than previous subject. :yay:

Current NVIDIA stock is shaking like a wee-wee above a urinal. All because of them Russian Bitcoin miners who can no longer purchase the gfx cardz because of an embargo.

Boo-hoo.

gfx is no longer a niche for "pretty images" but bitcoin mining.

Beh.

My nephew has a high-end PC and all he plays is Minecraft and Terraria.

Wot?

Judging by the "GF value" chart on https://www.gurufocus.com/stock/NVDA/summary the NVIDIA stock seems slightly undervalued currently. However you can see that's based on the assumption of a lot of growth.

Personally I expect it to be difficult for NVIDIA to realize that growth. I mean mining GPU's will probably be sold second hand, while not bought new. So GPU supply would be higher and demand lower. So GPU prices would drop and less of them would be sold.

Besides that point from a technical perspective, I do not expect the NVIDIA stock price has bottomed yet (when viewing with a monthly candle, combined with a bollinger band configured with a length of 20). So I'm not buying at this moment (but I'm not a stock expert).

It's a crappy year for tech indeed. But I still have hope for the second half of the year, especially the fourth quarter.

I don't know, I'm not a stock expert.

It seems to me that the PE of Nvidia (46.37) is a bit high compared to Intel (7.22) for example

On the other hand I think Intel lost some big customers, like Apple that produces their own chips. So to finish how I started: I don't know.

You know more than you give yourself credit for.

Intel suffers from the success AMD made the last years. Especially with their Ryzen processors that were a huge success in sales.

AMD processors are not better than Intel per se, but as long the public opinion thinks so, the stock market follows that trend.

I still reply whenever I log in to the forum :P

Edit: I prefer to follow the market news rather than PE trends and technical analysis. It's 90% psychology anyway. AMD dropped because it was "higher than ever before" so people doing analyses like these, sell their stock causing it to drop in value and causing a self-fulfilling proficy.

Well, I did try to learn a little bit about stocks during the pandemic, but I'm not an expert :P

Intel was a popular company in 2000. You could have bought the dip back then when it fell over 50%, and still have to wait 14 years to get the same money back, since it sold cheaper in between. And you didn't have much time back then to respond to that, if you where not sure what to do.

In my opinion there are two ways to make money from stocks:
1. Investing: if you could buy the entire company for it's current market cap, would that be at least a fair price?
2. Trading: You anticipate a certain move in the price and have a strategy to make money from that.

If you buy stocks in an individual company, that is a higher risk than dollar cost averaging into an ETF. So you need to have a way to manage that risk.

People where hyped about Intel in the year 2000, but if you bought then, you'd have to wait at least 14 years to get the same money back that you've put into it. So you need to know what you should do to prevent that.

Sentiment is a volatile indicator and it can turn against you. But in the short term you can profit from it. You can buy a company for 10x the amount it's worth, and sell it for 11x the amount it's worth.

But you can never be 100% sure that the stock price will go from 10 times it's fair value to 11 times it's fair value. However if you think it's more likely to happen than not, you can set up a trade where you buy at 10x, and sell at 11x. However, then you also need to define before hand, if the price drops below 9.75x (for example) then I sell with a stop loss.

That way, if your plan works out, you ensure you make profit. And if your plan doesn't work out, you limit your loss. If you're capable of being right more often than wrong about anticipating prices, than you make money by repeating the proces.

I don't trade myself, but at least those are the basics as I understand them.

There is actually a third way that is less risky if you invest for a long term (at least 10 years). On top of that, it doesn't consume much time, as explained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDzymiaryWo

So you just need to pick the right ETF or Index Fund, with low costs and a safe spread across markets and sectors. And then you need the discipline to not change the monthly amount based on sentiment. It's possible for example, that the stock market will slowly go down for the next 5 years, so it might feel like you're wasting your money by investing the same amount every month.

But it only means that you can buy more for the same amount every month, you don't want the stock market to go up while you're buying anyway. Only after the long term, you want higher prices to sell the stocks for.

I tried stock trading without enough knowledge in the past and am happy to have retreated fully from it. I'm going to have it wait until I understand more of it.

Bitcoin mining seems to bring up less money than I have heard about stock trading. Like a lot less. And you need big brains for bitcoin mining. A man like Raverdave can do this (as he was reporting in IRC), but I see it cannot work for a lot of other people.

I would want to try stock trading again later in life. I heard about trading stocks, that there could be hidden logic behind the stock lines' movement. For example, there could be hidden a played game of PAC-MAN for a certain stock. You could then model this game (with programming) and then recognize the stock line in it. When you have done that, you can predict the new line coming up.

I heard these are called the "games". Every stock has its own game. You could find on the internet what type of game is behind a company, then try to model it. There are a lot of stock trading computer programs that have modeled the games already for you. It's not only computer games but also other type of challenges. I heard there a stocks out there based on high school sciences (physics, chemistry, math), or so called the high school games. Here you need to model around a calculation about it.

Anyway who really knew that? People just think you need to buy and sell and play the stock line. :what:

I see you've been quite busy for someone who has nothing to say. Well done. Stocks are [up/down] this [hour/day/week/month/year/decade/century/millennium], but for how long?

That's a good strategy as well. Over long periods of time, eventually stocks of quality companies should go up.

I'm tempted to buy more stocks with a discount now, but I think I'd rather wait until the market has calmed down a bit. I don't think this is the time to buy stocks with a short term perspective, but I hope that I still have a few productive decades in me.

EDIT: I've did buy a little bit of stocks anyway. I still expect the bottom to be a lot lower, but I cannot know that. So I bought a little bit of a company that seems fairly priced to me.

Of course my stock decisions aren't an indication at all about what's smart to do for someone else. But I wanted to update, because this post said I wanted to wait for calmer markets, so I felt like I should update since I bought anyway (even though the markets are still volatile).

After doing an end test at my computer daycare, I received my MS Word 2019 certificate yesterday! My score was 98%! It consisted of 40 questions in 60 minutes. I only made 1 mistake.

Earlier I actually got my MS Excel and MS Outlook certificates. I've worked on these MS Office courses for 10 months now. I'm done now, I might be able to get work experience placement in a company.

It's hard to find work experience places is now clear. :(

Next to looking for such a place, I've continued with Java again, I am now studying Java Server Pages. JSP means using Java Enterprise Edition for generating web pages (HTML or alike). It's a server side language much like PHP. I understand many people have had Java programming courses in university, so for those people using JSP might be easier than PHP.

However, Java programs always take some time to write, also these web pages. I am now working on a small system to create news messages for my personal website by using HTML forms and JSP. The idea is further to be able to create Project pages to showcase what I've programmed on.

The beginning of this thread was about a lockdown.
The lockdown ended a while ago now, in most places on earth now.

However, I still wear a mask when I feel sick. This way we can keep looking out for each other. Depends on the culture though. A lot of people made a fuss about it for no apparent reason. (Guess they just don't like being told to do something)

I have a flu shot but I need a doctor's appointmet to get it shot.

I'm glad the virus has evolved to be less harmfull. I managed not to get it throughout the pandemic (I was really careful), until this summer. So now I finally had it too.

I had a fever and couldn't smell anything, so now I finally know what it's like.

It's currently not required to wear a mask when you're sick of course. But still, it is considerate of you.

I don't know why people are mad. Most people where having a bad time during the pandemic, so maybe people needed a way to be angry about what was going on.
