Anyone know any good sound effect sites? Ideally, I'd like a site where you can easily hear all the sounds without downloading them one by one... Kinda like this, but freeware. I need some decent sounds for kensuo. Big problem is, I can't really hear whether a sound is good. Anyone ever notice that some of the best games ever made have crazy (and crappy in a way) sounds that practically define the game? Like in Super Mario, when you jump, you get this springy "DOING" sound. I would never think of selecting a sound like that for a jump. Sound Dogs have zillions, but you have to pay. MeanRabbit.com have a lot of decent quality free sounds, but from what I remember you'll have to download them to hear them. This site has a big list of other free sound effect sites too - but I can't think of any off the top of my head that have a preview thingy. But if you find a good site, don't forget to submit to the links page. I'm going to submit these ones right now in fact. We have plans for a sound effect library here too actually. The other day Ferret was trying to write a little sound previewer in Flash for it. It doesn't seem to want to load anything other than mp3 though for some reason... Why? Answers on a postcard to the usual address! ____________ |

Seiously though, Flash is jsut retarded. I think it's something to do with the fact that all it's sound will be compressed as MP3 and that's the only decoder that the player has. So when you tell it to dynamically load anything else it gives you the finger. Groah indeed. ____________ laffo |

Nah there's no need for it because like I said every sound in a SWF ends up being MP3, so any more decoders would bump up the file size and memory footprint of the player.

I got a nice sounding drum track by just typing snare.wav, kick.wav, etc. into google and seeing where it got me. The sites i found had listen previews for the sounds also  maybe i just got lucky, but the end result was really nice once i exported as a WAV. Then put into Acid Pro, which is great for tweaking.Does anyone else use a real-time effects editor or something similar to Acid Pro? ____________ |

I have Cool Edit Pro 2 at my disposal and Fruity Loops 4 I believe; hardly use them though. Could you post the links to those awesome sites?

Unlike some of you I think Flash is a great program for attrictiveness on websites. If you can't use it because you exagurrate the effects, then it is your own fault. I admit the actionscript editor is retarded. It is not a decent IDE for quick programming. A programmer should type the least. It's a waste of time/money to type all code yourself. ____________ |
