Movement of the wiki

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=192

FenixWiki Codename "Fenix Complete Reference" is now moved to http://fenixdocs.com and administrated by Sandman.

I think most people know this already, but a lot of people still have links to the old one in their signature (yonni).

As last I want to say thank you to Sandman for making this wiki active and rich with content. This project wouldn't have been a success without him.
Also all other people who have added articles have my most sincere gratitude.

Hereby I close this worklog.

Ah well, can't close it, but there aren't going to be posts anymore

Are people using the wiki?

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=180

The answer is yes. The wiki is nowadays mostly moderated by Sandman, who has gained administrator/moderator rights, for his well-appreciated work.

I am glad to see these may articles. It means this project was a complete success! But the more, the merrier, we need more people adding content, so begin already. Even 1 article will do.

Regards.

A great new system for the wiki

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=172

Seriously, I am going to implement following system:

You earn EXPERIENCE on the wiki by adding/editing items. Based on EXPERIENCE you can gain levels. Only during purging (committing the data) you will gain experience. So basically when the data is approved by me or a moderator or administrator. If you approve your own contribution, you receive NO EXPERIENCE. Therefore I need at least one moderator.

By looking at someone's level you can see what his input in the wiki is. The higher your level, the more chance of becoming a moderator. (this is not done automatically however).

I think this is nice

And it lets users actively join it and keep it up to date, dontcha think?

Still necessary? YES

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=169

You might wonder if it is still necessary to have the wiki, the answer is simply yes, because it should be a gateway for english fenix users to share knowledge, a knowledge base rather than just a reference. The title will differ from the project title too, but I have not decided yet. It might be time to start coding teh shit here, but I am still thinking, I am good with ASP, but I want to implement a mySQL database. MyODBC would do fine. I simply don't have time to learn php from scratch.

I expect to be doing this very soon now...

Update for the wiki ?

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=164

First about the bot:

I have difficulty putting that mirc bot online 24/7. I often do not come home for a few days so I cannot set it online. I do not have a server at home, I cannot let it run 24/7. If someone wants to host it for me, please let me know.

Now to business...

A looong time ago I had this website with tutorials. Well it kind of got lost and the database was killed. Anyway, I might get back to it.

The wiki will be made. I am still thinking on installing a Mediawiki (free to download) on a server somewhere or program it myself. What should I choose, hmmm.

FCR bot

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=146

Hi it's been like... 2 months. Well:

There is now an FCR bot in the chatroom #bilge on irc.allripped.net

You should idle there... always, and while at it you might want to participate in the progress on this bot.

!fenix (or !f): Look up an item. i.e. !f load_fpg
!add : Add an item. i.e. !add load_fpg Load an fpg file into memory
!edit : Edit an item, like !add but for existing items
!delete (or !del) : Deletes an item (!!!!)

privileged, transactional commands:

!commit : permanently store changes
!rollback : undo changes and rollback to last commit

who can use privileged commands:
- Me
- Rincewind
- Sandman

futuring:
- something to undelete when you delete by accident.
- something to transfer changes to the upcoming website. This requires total reprogramming in Fenix... imagine, a fenix help bot programmed in Fenix itself!

Data Model - Update

http://booleansoup.com/index.php?p=43&m=viewpost&id=58

Purging the system will prevent vandalists to sabotage the system. There are two ways.

1)

To keep the speed of updating the content, every user is able to change items. These items are shown on the pages.

However, every item is stored in an extra table called "Approved_Items". A special authenticated user is able to commit changes to cerain items to this table; or rollback. Rolling back will get the original data out of the Approved_Items table (if no old data is present the item gets deleted(!)).

2)

The same system but instead of showing all Items, show only Approved Items. (slower to update since everything must be checked before showing, but you're absolutely 100% sure everything is approved).

which to choose now? hm...

This morning when the horizon was burning and reflecting its flames on the dew all over the misty landscape, I got inspiration for a certain colour scheme for the FCR (Fenix Complete Reference).
